Jerry Jarrett has great pride in his son, Jeff, a WWE superstar.
According to a Tuesday WWE release, Jerry Jarrett, the father of WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett, passed away. He was 80.
Professional wrestling fans may recall Jarrett from his days as a renowned Mid-America zone performer for the NWA before he quit in 1977 and co-founded the Continental Wrestling Association with Jerry “The King” Lawler. In 1998, the United States Wrestling Association was formed as a result of the consolidation of several smaller wrestling organizations.
It wasn’t until 1997 that Lawler was able to successfully remove Jarrett from his position as USWA president. During the “Monday Night Wars” between WWE and World Championship Wrestling, the company collapsed.
After Jeff Jarrett’s star began to rise in WWE, he defected to WCW and became a prominent role during the latter days of the business. In response to WWE’s purchase of WCW, the Jarrett brothers established NWA-TNA as an alternative promotion (later Total Nonstop Wrestling, now Impact Wrestling).
A disagreement with the company’s leadership in 2005 led to Jarrett’s resignation and subsequent sale of his shares to Panda Energy. If you want to know where WWE is going, remember the names A.J. Styles, Xavier Woods, and Bobby Roode. Superstars from AeW such as Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, and the Young Bucks were present.
In the wake of the announcement, the wrestling world came together in support of the Jarrett family.
